The top-level domain of geographical names is starting to be used worldwide. As part of this trend, a seminar was held on June 9th with the aim of deepening the understanding and significance of “.kyoto" among the general public in Kyoto. The seminar discussed the potential for creating new businesses and the development through the utilization of “.kyoto”.
The seminar was organized by Kyoto Computer Gakuin (KCG) the managing organization for ".kyoto." Participants included people from Kyoto companies and academic circles, where they discussed the future of ".kyoto" through exchanges of ideas. On this first session of the first day, Professor Shozo Naito of The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI) explained the history of the Internet, domain structure, scale, and current status. He then introduced ".kyoto," including the efforts of the university. Afterward, Professor Naito and the participants engaged in Q&A sessions and exchanged the business cards in a friendly atmosphere. Participants were enthusiastically asking questions about the future schedule leading up to the operation.
The first session will have its second meeting on July 20 (Saturday) at 3:00 PM and the third meeting on August 7 (Wednesday) at 6:30 PM. This will be followed by a second and third session. Participants are still being recruited. The intended audience includes those residing in Kyoto Prefecture, working for companies in Kyoto Prefecture, students enrolled in schools in Kyoto Prefecture (universities, graduate schools, vocational schools, junior colleges, etc.), and others related to activities in Kyoto.
