The Kyoto Smart City Expo was held over a three day period from June 1-3 at the Keihanna Open Innovation Center (KICK). Event participants explored the future of cities using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) during which the Cyber Kyoto Laboratory (CKL) Director and KCGI professor Masatsugu Kidode gave a lecture about the significance of the top-level geographical domain “.kyoto” as a registry for which KCGI is the registry operator.
The lecture by Director Kidode titled “Aiming for the Fusion of the Real World and Cyber Society – The Expansion of ‘.kyoto’” was given on the third day of the Kyoto Smart City Expo during the seminar “KICK’s Innovations to Form Smart Communities”. During the lecture, Director Kidode spoke about the important meaning behind the “.kyoto” domain which indicates the publishing content source. About ".kyoto", he said, "The domain has an extremely important meaning to indicate the publisher of the content. It is important for the Kyoto brand to provide centralized information dissemination in the cyber world.” The CKL, which opened in June last year after receiving the first certification from the prefectural government as the center's research and utilization plan, is a center that fuses the cyber world on the Internet with the real world.
The “.kyoto” domain, managed and operated by an educational institution, is positioned as a join industry-government-academia public service project. Unfortunately, many other top-level domains are not properly managed due to overuse and overselling, but ".kyoto" is a clean domain name that will further enhance the international recognition and brand power of Kyoto as a whole, and will lead to the revitalization of social and economic activities. We would like to focus our wisdom to further enhance the international recognition and brand power of Kyoto as a whole and to lead to the revitalization of social and economic activities," he said. Meanwhile, many visitors came to CKL's booth.
".kyoto" was born in cyberspace in June 2015 and is currently accepting general registration. On May 26, 2015, the CKL concluded a comprehensive agreement on collaboration and cooperation with Kyoto Prefecture, which includes strengthening the communication of the Kyoto brand through ".kyoto".
