A seminar on Open Data will be held at The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics, Cyber Kyoto Laboratory. In this seminar, we will introduce the efforts made by Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City to enable individuals and companies to use open data. Your participation in the seminar is highly encouraged and appreciated.
Open Data, refers to data that can be accessed and used freely by the public and allowed to be redistributed, has been managed by government and public organizations. The public release of these data has been actively promoted and the effort is spreading nationwide.
In 2016, "Basic Act for Government and Private Sector Data Utilization Promotion" was passed by the National Diet. As a result, the utilization of administrative data, which has often been perceived as an “experimental attempt” by only a few local municipalities, is expected to advance further. However, specific efforts are still limited, and many people are only familiar with the term "open data", but lack solid understanding. By introducing the practices conducted by Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City, the seminar aims to promote the broader utilization of open data by individuals, companies, students, and professionals, who aspire to create web services that benefit society.
